I was very lucky to have the opportunity to visit the beautiful city of Edinburgh in the spring of 2025. The weather was fabulous, with sunshine gracing us for the entire week — a rare and very welcome treat in Scotland.
If you’ve ever been to Chichester or Winchester, Edinburgh has a similar charm, just on a much grander scale, and I absolutely loved it. The city is filled with ancient architecture, dramatic landscapes and a wonderful mix of creative independent shops and eateries.
Climbing Arthur’s Seat: A View Worth Every Step
After a spot of lunch and a full night’s sleep at the lovely Marriott Hotel, we headed down through the town to the base of Arthur’s Seat.
The climb was short, with a steep push at the end, but the views were absolutely marvellous — the sea on one side and endless sights stretching out in every direction.
From the summit, you can even see Edinburgh Castle, which we visited later that week. Standing proudly above the city, it’s a sight that stays with you long after you’ve left.
The walk came to an end with a well‑needed ice cream at the bottom — the perfect reward after the climb.
A Closer Look at Edinburgh Castle
On another day, after spotting the castle from the top of Arthur’s Seat, we decided it was time to explore it up close — and what a brilliant idea that was.
Edinburgh Castle sits proudly atop its volcanic rock, with views stretching far and wide across the city.
My favourite part of the visit was the little chapel, with its beautiful stained‑glass windows. The colours and detail were absolutely captivating, especially as the spring light poured through them.
